Talsma Furniture was founded in Hudsonville, Michigan by Bert Talsma and his father. Bert had spent some time working at other furniture stores and helping his dad with farming before getting into the furniture business himself. At first the small store carried everything from appliances to gifts, and later focused primarily on furniture. There were some bumps along the way, including a fire that destroyed the Hudsonville location and forced the Talsma family to open a location in Holland in 1984. When the Hudsonville store was finally rebuilt, the Talsma's focused on growing the chain, and focusing on the Grand Rapids area. After several additions to both Hudsonville and Holland, The family decided to open a third location in Byron Center in 1999. Talsma Furniture is now run by both of Bert's sons and one of his daughters. In 2008 we are celebrating 60 years of business!
